The big event is almost here – the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo is scheduled to take place this 12 August to 15 August 2021. It’s the largest rodeo in the Southern Hemisphere, touting Australia’s biggest rodeo prize pool that attracts up to 750 great competitors from all over the nation and world.
The competition is tough. The stakes are high. And with back to back action with fully packed events happening over 4 days, non-stop rodeo action is guaranteed to keep everyone entertained.
Not to mention, the romance is real as the Australian Outback meets the grit of Mount Isa’s humble mining town. It’s a true moment where East meets West, and Man meets Beast.

Fully packed rodeo action
Fast, furious, and dangerous, the bull riding is a highlight loved by the crowd. A challenging event that requires a highly skilled rider to hold on with one hand, with a free hand that cannot touch anything, on a bucking bull for at least 8 seconds.
The rider is judged for style and ability to stay on the beast, while the bull is judged for his ability to buck the rider before the timer goes off.
For the saddle bronc event, synchronisation is the key to winning. Time it right with the spurring actions of a bucking horse, and the rider has to stay on for at least 8 seconds while holding on with one hand while his free hand mustn’t touch anything. Both rider and horse are judged for both style and bucking.
The bareback bronc is an exciting event with only a leather pad and handle for the rider to utilise. The challenge is to stay on for 8 seconds, with the same rules applying as the saddle bronc. Judging is also the same.
Many other rodeo events are also scheduled to take place, including steer wrestling, rope and tie, team roping, ladies barrel racing, ladies breakaway roping, and poddy rides for younger rodeo enthusiasts to make a good impression when starting out their rodeo careers.
